Adam Nash (aka Adam Ramona) Selected Second Life Works 2007-2009

I spent hours the other day walking around Adam Nash's (aka Adam Ramona) first solo show in Second Life. I recommend you take the time to step into this environment and experience it in person. Here are a few words written below by way of an introduction to his work - you can learn much more if you go visit - Adam also agreed to an interview on Koinup via metanopsis - which will be up in the next few days. Few have the capability to transcend and Adam is one of those. His work, in simplistic terms is an interactive sound installation experience, and as I already mentioned, is best experienced in person - nothing substitutes a first person interaction. I'll talk a little more about it when I post up the interview.

Adam Nash (aka Adam Ramona)
Selected Second Life Works 2007-2009

Introduction 2009

These works are a selection of the solo work I was producing in Second Life from 2007 to 2009. None of the SL collaborations I worked on (Cantata Park, BabelSwarm, Ways To Wave, Autoscopia) during that time all of which are far more important than the trifles presented here are presented, and of course nor is any of the work I was producing in other realtime 3D environments.

The works range in interactivity and immersion from fairly passive to fairly active. Some require the user to simply float listen and watch, others require a more active role, clicking (or touching to use the Lindens teasing euphemism), moving, flying, camera-ing. All the works use a rational scale of my own devising, based on a fundamental of 77 and proceedings in whole number ratios of 7, to compose both the audio and visual forms.

Hopefully the works, in some small part, invite the user to question the analogies and assumptions that form the foundation of the Second Life experience which, like all contemporary capitalist production, relies on the users unquestioning acceptance of the ideology informing its fundamental architecture. A realtime 3D Virtual Environment (of which Second Life is but one specific example) is not a visual medium. Virtual art can not be easily read from the surface, it is a post-convergent medium in which many disparate elements work together in a symbiotic relationship to achieve a complex dynamic, of which the visual is only one aspect.

My thanks to White Lebed for curating this selection.

Adam Nash (Adam Ramona), Melbourne, 2009.

Bell Garden (2007)

A gentle introduction. This is a simple proximity activated audiovisual sculpture with the sound of bells and gentle undulations triggered by the avatar entering the sculpture. This is only one of two works work of mine that use a regular twelve-tone harmonic scale rather than my own rational scale.

I'd like to personally add that Kolor Fall donated sim space :) without kind offers, Art in SL would not be able to continue in the same manner. So thank you Kolor

Koinup Expansions

Koinup is expanding! We aim to be a portal gateway to Virtual Worlds. We all met via the platform Seond Life, and will indeed use that as our spring board. Recently Phaylen Fairchild joined the team, whom I am delighted to say is writing a series on machinima. Below you can see who is currently doing what ...

* Stories from the Machine by Phaylen Fairchild
* Metanopsis by Poid Mahovlich
* Koinup's Cream of the Crop by Fiona Haworth
* OMNIBUS by Soror Nishi
* MEET ME IN THE METAVERSE by Fiona Haworth

I am delighted to say and announce that both Harper Beresford and Grace McDunnough have also agreed to join the bloggers role here at Koinup, so watch the Koinup area for more information on what they will be writing about ! We will take it one step at a time - steady as she goes - but expanding we are most certainly doing, and that is very exciting. What interests me the most, is that such strong, talented & knowledgeable voices are gathered in the same area. We also are planning to change the style of the Koinup blog so make it easier to take in all the information on offer - so plans are in the mix! Plus a few more uber exciting things are in the pipeline - which will evolve and come to the surface all in due course. We welcome you on this collective journey!

Poidly Paradox - WarHammer

I've been playing Warhammer for since I think it was Jan /Feb of this year - it's fun relaxing and the scenery in this virtual world is simply stunning :) I am visually so attracted to this game. There certainly is life beyond Second Life and the community in Europe is thriving for Warhammer - It ain't everyone cup of tea but lets face it neither is SL. It makes a welcome change. I play a Warrior Priest at the moment - but I also have a Bright Wizard Char.

I was chatting to Phaylen Fairchild last night (we also have played Warhammer together) and she showed me the next thing in MMO - which goes by the name of 'tera' not due out till 2010 but looks amazing so far - the advancements in these games is jaw dropping - if only Second Life had such backdrops !

Paisley Beebe asked me to hop on her show and have a chat so I did - I was pretty exhausted at it was after 3am so excuse my ramblings at time :) I was there to talk about my art plot at Burning Life this year, which I called 'Cabaret Of Flames' and a little on experiences and visits to the real life event of Burning Man.

The two other guests where Malburns Writer - Metaverse News Aggregator & Broadcaster, and JueL Resistance - Singer/Songwriter. Cool evening thank you Paisley!
